Mac Has Gone 64-Bit
BlogStomp is no longer our flagship blogging software, as we have replaced it with Storytailor.
We are still supporting the BlogStomp software and its users, but BlogStomp is no longer available for purchase. Learn more about Storytailor HERE.
You may have heard the rumors. Turns out they were true.
Apple recently introduced OSX Catalina, which is chock-full of all sorts of new and wonderful features sure to please its users. But part of that announcement was that this and future versions of MacOS would no longer support 32-bit applications. In a move 10 years in the making, Apple have now fully transitioned to 64-bit architecture and have ceased 32-bit app support.
So what does that mean?
According to MacRumors.com, “…64-bit apps can take advantage of more memory and offer faster system performance [than 32-bit apps do]. Apple technologies like Metal only work with 64-bit apps, and for Apple to ensure that Mac apps include all of the latest advancements and optimizations, support for 32-bit needs to end. In the simplest terms, 32-bit apps are inefficient.”
Yea, but what does this mean for ME??
For those of you on BlogStomp3 and AlbumStomp2, the current versions of our software, you won’t see any changes at all. All the latest versions of our software apps are built on 64-bit architecture, taking full advantage of the speed and stability benefits.
But if you’re using one of our legacy versions like BlogStomp V2 (2012) or the original AlbumStomp (2014), you’re going to have a different experience. In fact, you’re likely already seeing warning messages and the like when you launch the software. And come this September when OS 15 is released for Mac and you inevitably upgrade your OS, these apps will no longer work at all.
So what can I do?
It’s a bit of a pickle, aye? You pretty much have two options here. First, you can elect not to update your computer’s operating system, as the one you’re currently on supports 32-bit apps. However, this is only a temporary “fix” (you’re bound to upgrade at some point), and it’s just not a good idea to use an outdated OS for a myriad of reasons.
Your other, better, option is to upgrade BlogStomp and AlbumStomp to our current versions. Upgrading BlogStomp and AlbumStomp is a great plan for many reasons, not the least of which being the loads of new features we’ve added, the increased speed and stability behind the scenes, the beautiful new interfaces, and -oh yeah- your software will work on OSX 15 and newer.
Add to all these benefits the fact that we’ve got some MASSIVE upgrade discounts for you, and you’ve got some über-compelling reasons to get on the new goods!
If you’ve been putting off upgrading your AlbumStomp or BlogStomp software, now’s the time to do it. (Honestly, a year or two ago was just as good a time. But now is the right time.) Don’t get left out in the cold because of Apple’s OS changes. Grab the BlogStomp and AlbumStomp upgrades today.
Happy Stomping!
